SoTE Conference — Scholarship of Teaching and Engagement VI
March 27 - 28, 2014
8:00 am - 5:00 pm
At its core, engaged learning focuses on connecting every student to content, each other, the instructor, and the world. Students are essentially "cognitive apprentices", novice learners in the field, who benefit from carefully crafted and guided experiences that ensure development of their skills and understanding of the world around them. Undergraduate scholarship, involving a shift from learning about content to using, applying, and discovering content both inside the classroom and outside of the classroom, is one of the most powerful methods for building the student learning outcomes that higher education promises. By closing the loop, careful classroom-based and institutional assessment helps guide the use of resources and constantly improves our ability to prepare students to function effectively in the world.
We eagerly invite you to participate at the Scholarship of Teaching & Engagement (SoTE) VI conference. Every year, SoTE brings together higher education instructors, administrators, and community members to discuss issues central to student learning, engaged teaching, and community engagement. SoTE sessions are interactive, with time for discussion and sharing of ideas that benefit all participants and that lead to innovative thinking. This year's conference focuses on how undergraduate scholarship and assessment can enrich student learning and benefit the community.
